What is a youkai?

 This time I will introduce the "Yokai" in my name.

What is a youkai?

Youkai are strange things and things that cannot be explained, especially events that are not good for us.

Also, youkai make things that people can't do, such as "raining" and "flying in the sky," easy, so people were scared of youkai and tried not to meet them.

Youkai and God

It is said that there are countless gods in Japan.

It is called "Yaoyorozu no kami（eight million gods）" in Japan.

And the gods are also the ones who can do things that people cannot do, such as "raining" and "flying in the sky."

So what is the difference between youkai and gods?

In fact, it's the same.

However, it is "God" who does many positive things for people, and "Yokai" who does many negative things.

Therefore, some of the same things may be youkai or gods depending on the location.

Things that are both youkai and gods

I am both a youkai and a gods, and my favorite is the "Tengu" .

Tengu is famous as a youkai, but it is worshiped as a god at Mt. Takao in Hachioji, Tokyo.

In addition, "Oni (demon)" and "kappa" may also be worshiped as gods.

[Dr. Yokai] Inoue Enryo's Scientific Theory of Yokai [Yokai Encyclopedia]

  What is Inoue Enryo? Enryo Inoue was a Buddhist philosopher and educator. He was a teacher who focused on philosophy to gain diverse perspectives and built a school called Tetugakukan (means Philosophy Hall), which is now Toyo University . He studied youkai (ghosts) in an attempt to break through the monstrosities and youkai and gave lectures on them , and was also known as "Dr. Haunted" or "Dr. Youkai" . He also developed a board game called "Tetugakutobisyougo" (meaning "Philosophy Flying Shogi") , a compromise of the rules of both Go and Shogi because it takes a long time to settle the game.  Inoue Enryo (March 18, 1858 - June 6, 1919) strangely classified Inoue Enryo divided youkai into two main categories.  Anime that is popular in Japan now Nowadays, the anime " Jujutsu Kaisen " is popular in Japan. This anime is a story about an ordinary high school boy eating a youkai relic and gaining powerful power. The youkai relic is a youkai's finger called " Ryomen Sukuna " . Ryomensukuna is a youkai with faces on both the front and back of the head, and has a total of eight limbs . This Ryomensukuna is a youkai that actually appears not only in anime but also in Japanese folk tales. Of course, eating the youkai's relics doesn't give you any power.
